The Punjab Home Department on Tuesday placed the names of 577 workers of the banned Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) on the Fourth Schedule, effectively subjecting them to strict monitoring and legal restrictions.
The national identity cards and passports of the listed workers have also been blocked, while their properties have been seized and their bank accounts frozen.
The action follows the federal government’s formal approval on October 23, 2025, to impose a ban on the TLP, directing the Interior Ministry to complete all necessary legal procedures.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the federal cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad, acting upon a recommendation forwarded by the Punjab government.
According to the chargesheet, TLP leaders have been accused of delivering hate speeches, promoting sectarianism, and inciting violence against minority communities.
The leaders and workers of the banned TLP have also been blamed for damaging public property during protests and demonstrations held across various cities.
TLP, a banned far-right Islamist populist party, was founded in August 2015 by Allama Khadim Hussain Rizvi, who served as its first leader. The party is currently headed by Saad Hussain Rizvi.
In the 2024 general election, TLP emerged as the fourth-largest political party in Pakistan, securing nearly 2.9 million votes across the country.
It also became the third-largest political force in Punjab with around 2.5 million votes and won a seat from PP-55 Narowal-II in the Punjab Assembly.
