ISLAMABAD: More than 50 embassies and international delegates gathered in Islamabad on Monday for the Global Destinations Expo, marking a major push to promote tourism and cultural exchange in Pakistan.
The Global Destinations Expo, held here, brought together Discover Pakistan and the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) to host one of the country’s largest tourism-focused gatherings. Delegates from over 50 countries attended the event, which highlighted global culture, travel opportunities, and tourism partnerships.
The expo opened with a joint inauguration by Discover Pakistan CEO Dr Qaiser Rafiq, PTDC Managing Director Aftab ur Rehman Rana, and Romania’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Dan Stoenescu, alongside ambassadors from several nations.
Embassies set up country-specific stalls, offering visitors a chance to explore cultural exhibits, traditional arts, handicrafts, and tourism material. International food counters also drew large interest as attendees sampled dishes from various regions, giving them a broad view of global culinary traditions.
Special Adviser to the Prime Minister on Tourism, Sardar Yasir Ilyas, attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest. He presented shields to foreign delegates and said the expo marked a key step toward expanding tourism activity in Pakistan.
According to him, such events help introduce Pakistan to global audiences while giving local visitors exposure to cultures and travel opportunities from around the world.
Addressing the gathering, Romania’s Ambassador Dr Dan Stoenescu said international participation at events like this strengthens relations between Pakistan and other countries.
He noted that such platforms support cultural exchange and contribute to a positive global perception of Pakistan.
