Omar Ayub Khan declines PTI political committee role, cites legal, political commitments

Former opposition leader and senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Omar Ayub Khan has refused to join the party’s political committee, citing ongoing legal and political engagements.

In a statement shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Omar Ayub Khan said it was not possible for him to play an active role in the political committee due to multiple criminal and civil cases he is currently facing.

He reiterated that he had earlier requested that his name not be included, as he is no longer a member of parliament or an office bearer of the party.

In his message addressed to PTI Secretary General Barrister Salman Akram Raja, Omar Ayub Khan stressed that membership of the political committee should be restricted to current office bearers only, and that the criteria set by the party leadership should be strictly followed.

He also recommended that opposition leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai be included or co-opted into the political committee, saying his presence was essential for setting the political agenda and ensuring its implementation in the National Assembly and beyond, in line with the directives of PTI founder Imran Khan.

Formally tendering his resignation from the political committee, Omar Ayub Khan reaffirmed his loyalty to the party leadership, stating that he was, is and will remain a worker of Imran Khan.

He concluded by extending best wishes and prayers to the members of the political committee, expressing hope that they would guide the party through what he described as challenging and turbulent times.
