Punjab CM launches ‘Apna Khait, Apna Rozgar’ scheme

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Thursday announced a major land distribution and employment initiative aimed at improving livelihoods for poor and landless families across the province.

Under the newly launched ‘Apna Khait, Apna Rozgar’ programme, the provincial government will allocate three to five acres of state land to eligible beneficiaries. A total of 250,000 acres will be distributed free of cost to support sustainable income generation.

The chief minister made the announcement while addressing a ceremony marking the inauguration of electric bus services in Rajanpur. She said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive development and economic empowerment of underprivileged communities.

Maryam Nawaz said the scheme is designed to help people become self-reliant by providing them with land for cultivation and livelihood opportunities. She added that special attention is being given to districts that have remained underdeveloped for decades.

In addition, the chief minister announced the introduction of a ‘Kisan Card’ for farmers. The card will enable farmers to purchase essential agricultural inputs, including fertilizers, seeds, and pesticides, through an organized and transparent system.

She stressed that the Punjab government is pursuing balanced development and that no district will be left behind. According to her, the direction of development in Punjab has improved significantly over the past two years.

Referring to Rajanpur, Maryam Nawaz said the region’s long-standing deprivation is now being addressed through targeted development initiatives.

She also announced the expansion of electric bus services to Rajanpur. She said buses currently operating in Lahore would be introduced in the district to provide affordable, modern, and environmentally friendly transport facilities.

The chief minister revealed that electric buses would operate on all major routes in Rajanpur as part of a province-wide transport expansion plan. She added that 1,100 additional electric buses are being inducted into Punjab’s public transport system.
