Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has once again demanded that its founder, Imran Khan, be allowed access to his personal doctors and family members following his latest medical procedure.
Imran Khan was shifted late at night from Adiala Jail to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences for treatment of his diagnosed eye condition. Doctors administered a second anti-VEGF intravitreal injection as part of ongoing care for central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO). After the procedure, he was returned to jail.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said the party was not informed in advance about the timing of the check-up. He stated that although authorities had indicated a date for medical examination, they did not mention that it would take place during the night.
Speaking to reporters outside Adiala Jail, Gohar said he was informed only after the medical procedure had already been completed. He questioned the lack of prior notice to party leadership and family members.
He reiterated that Imran Khan’s treatment should be conducted at Shifa International Hospital in the presence of his personal physicians. He said there was no legal or medical justification to restrict access to his doctors or family.
“There is no reason to obstruct his treatment or meetings,” Gohar stated. He added that PTI believes in resolving issues through constitutional and political means.
Addressing reports about a proposed “Imran Khan Release Force,” Gohar clarified that the party would not take any illegal or unconstitutional steps. He emphasized that PTI believes in political struggle and democratic engagement. He said the party would continue raising its concerns in parliament, in courts, and through public forums.
Separately, PTI leader Ali Muhammad Khan questioned why the former prime minister was transported to the hospital at night. He said secrecy around medical treatment raises unnecessary concerns. He argued that informing the family and party beforehand could have prevented controversy.
Meanwhile, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said the second procedure was completed successfully. He stated that Imran Khan showed improvement after the first injection. Following medical clearance, he was shifted back to jail. The government also confirmed that a third injection is scheduled for March 24.
Imran Khan, 74, has been in custody since August 2023 following convictions that he and his party describe as politically motivated.
