NEPRA to decide on Rs1.78 tariff hike tomorrow

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is set to announce its final verdict tomorrow on a proposed increase in electricity tariffs, it was reported on Wednesday.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, authorities have requested an increase of Rs1.78 per unit in power tariffs.

Under government guidelines, the monthly fuel price adjustment would also apply to K-Electric, the power distribution company serving Karachi.

A hearing on the proposed increase under the monthly fuel price adjustment mechanism is scheduled to take place at NEPRA tomorrow.

As per the channel report, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a request to Nepra seeking a Rs1.78 per unit increase as part of the January 2026 fuel price adjustment.

At present, the December 2025 monthly adjustment is in force for consumers nationwide, including in Karachi. Under that adjustment, electricity tariffs were increased by 28 paisas per unit.
