An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad has ordered that key leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf cannot be arrested until May 21. The decision covers more than 230 cases filed against party leaders.
The ruling was issued by ATC Judge Abul Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain during hearings of cases related to the November 26 protest, the Sangjani rally, and demonstrations outside the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Several PTI leaders, including Umer Niazi, Rauf Hassan, and Azam Swati, appeared in court during the proceedings.
The court extended interim bail and directed authorities not to detain the leaders until the set date. Both prosecution and defense were instructed to present their final arguments at the next hearing.
Earlier, Authorities in Lahore have taken Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Aliya Hamza into custody. Following her arrest, she was reportedly moved to an undisclosed location. Officials have not yet issued a formal statement regarding the circumstances of her detention.
Aliya Hamza, who serves as the Chief Organizer for PTI in Punjab, had previously been sentenced in multiple cases related to the events of May 9. She received ten-year prison terms in each of these cases, making her arrest a continuation of ongoing legal proceedings connected to those convictions.
