ISLAMABAD: Lebanon has sought Pakistan’s support to help bring an immediate end to Israeli attacks, according to an official statement.
According to the Prime Minister Office, Shehbaz Sharif held a telephonic conversation with his Lebanese counterpart Nawaf Salam.
During the call, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned Israel’s ongoing aggression against Lebanon and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of thousands of lives.
He stated that Pakistan remains actively engaged in sincere efforts to promote regional peace, noting that peace talks between Iran and the United States are being organized in this spirit.
According to the statement, the Lebanese prime minister thanked Shehbaz Sharif for Pakistan’s peace initiatives and requested Islamabad’s cooperation in efforts to immediately halt the attacks on Lebanon and its people.
The development comes after Pakistan received international recognition for its role in facilitating a two-week ceasefire between Iran and the United States.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron called Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and congratulated him on Pakistan’s mediation efforts that resulted in a ceasefire between Iran and the United States.
During their warm and cordial conversation, the French President acknowledged Pakistan’s role in bringing both sides to the negotiating table.
President Emmanuel Macron conveyed his good wishes to the prime minister for the success of the upcoming peace talks in Islamabad.
While thanking the French President for supporting Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts, the prime minister reaffirmed that Pakistan would continue to strive for peace and stability in the region.
Both leaders also expressed serious concern over the ongoing aggression in Lebanon and stressed the urgent need to end the violence and killings so that peace could be re-established across the region.
