Gas-powered generation brings stability to national grid, says Power Division

In a statement, the spokesman for the Power Division said on Thursday that no load management was done during peak hours last night (April 29).

He further said that last night the production of electricity from hydel source stood at 6,000 megawatts, while the total capacity of power generation from water was 11,500 megawatts.

He further said that the supply of local gas to power plants and the availability of hydel power had increased the production of electricity, which brought stability to national grid in the country’s south. “500 megawatts of electricity was supplied from the south last night,” the spokesman elaborated.

He clarified that there was a policy of economic load management in the areas covered by loss-making feeders, and that economic load management had nothing to do with load management during the peak hours.

He informed that owing to the non-availability of LNG due to situation in the Gulf, there was no electricity generation from the power plants, which had the capacity to produce 4,700 megawatts of electricity.

The spokesman hoped that with the supply of LNG and an increase in the discharge of water, there would be no shortfall during nighttime.
