Afghanistan is facing a worsening economic and humanitarian crisis under Taliban rule, with poverty, hunger and unemployment continuing to rise across the country, according to reports by Afghan media outlets.
Reports published by Ariana News and TOLOnews said the United Nations has warned that food insecurity and hunger in Afghanistan are becoming increasingly severe as the country struggles with economic collapse and weak governance.
The United Nations said more than 13 million people in Afghanistan are currently suffering from food insecurity, with women and children among the worst affected groups.
According to the UN, Afghanistan is facing several major crises, including economic destruction and widespread unemployment, which have intensified under the Taliban administration.
The country’s deteriorating economy and paralysed governing system have created conditions that observers say resemble those of a failing state.
The United Nations World Food Programme has also warned that supplies of specialised food required for the treatment of malnourished women and children have been severely disrupted, raising fears of a further humanitarian emergency in the months ahead.
Aid organisations have repeatedly expressed concern over the growing hardship faced by ordinary Afghans as the country continues to grapple with economic instability and limited international support.
