EU leak warns Taliban-linked extremism emerging as major threat to Europe

SRINAGAR: Terrorism flourishing under the shadow of the Taliban regime has emerged as a serious threat to Europe, as alarming revelations surfaced in a leaked European Union threat assessment report highlighting growing security concerns linked to Afghanistan.

According to the leaked 23-page European Union threat assessment document, violent extremism and terrorism originating from Afghanistan are no longer confined to the region and have now become a major security challenge for European countries.

The report identifies ISIS-Khorasan as the most dangerous external threat currently facing Europe.

The assessment revealed that extremist organisations operating from Afghanistan are aggressively using the internet and social media platforms to spread propaganda and radicalise young people on a large scale.

Terror groups are reportedly exploiting platforms such as Telegram and TikTok to recruit and brainwash children as young as 12 years old.

The leaked report further warned that Afghanistan has increasingly become a hub for extremist networks, digital radicalisation and cross-border terrorism under Taliban rule. Security experts believe the findings support Pakistan’s long-standing position that the Afghan regime’s alleged patronage of militancy and narcotics networks has contributed significantly to the spread of extremism beyond the region.

International analysts also noted that the security risks emerging from Afghanistan are now extending into Europe, raising fresh concerns among Western governments over online radicalisation, recruitment campaigns and the growing operational reach of terror organisations linked to Afghanistan.
