LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday issued formal notices to the Government of Punjab and other relevant authorities, demanding a detailed response regarding the decision to grant a three-month summer vacation closure across educational institutions in the province.
The directives were issued by Justice Khalid Ishaq during a preliminary hearing of a petition filed by the All Private Schools Federation.
Challenge to Prolonged Academic Disruptions
The petitioner approached the high court to contest the provincial government’s recent notification, which mandates the closure of all schools for a continuous ninety days due to the summer heatwaves.
In the petition, the All Private Schools Federation argued that shutting down educational facilities for an entire three months would severely disrupt the academic calendar and negatively impact the learning curve of students. They maintained that alternative measures should be explored instead of enforced long-term closures that compromise educational standards.
After hearing the initial arguments from the petitioner’s counsel, Justice Khalid Ishaq accepted the petition for regular hearing. The court directed the provincial legal team to submit an official reply from the Punjab government, clarifying the rationale behind the extensive holiday schedule.
The case has been adjourned until the submission of responses from the respondents.
