Supreme Judicial Council rejects five complaints against CJP Afridi

The Supreme Judicial Council, in its meeting held on May 14, disposed of five complaints filed against Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

In a declaration issued on Thursday, the council said that the first complaint against the CJP had been filed by Sibghatullah Shah, a lawyer at the Peshawar High Court (PHC), in 2016 when Afridi was the chief justice of the PHC.

The lawyer had alleged that the then chief justice flouted merit during the appointment of additional sessions judges.

The second complaint, read the declaration, was lodged by Amjad Hussain Durrani, a resident of Karachi, in which the complainant alleged that a Supreme Court (SC) bench, headed by CJP Afridi, had in January 12, 2022 disposed of his petition without hearing him.

The third complaint against the CJP was filed by Kamran Khan, also a resident of Karachi, in which Khan said that the Supreme Judicial Council had rejected his plea without giving him an opportunity to present his point of view.

The fourth complaint was filed by Muhammad Masood, a resident of Vehari, in which he alleged that the apex court bench, of which CJP Afridi was a member, had in March 2023 given the verdict in a civil case without taking into account the facts.

The declaration stated that the fifth complaint was lodged by Amjad Mehmood, a lawyer at the Lahore High Court, who said that the apex court bench in December 2024 had banned the entry of lawyer in the court premises, which, he argued, amounted to misconduct.
