China’s President Xi Jinping has reaffirmed Beijing’s “unbreakable” friendship with Pakistan during high-level talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Beijing.
He described Pakistan as an “old friend,” saying both countries have consistently supported and trusted each other despite global political changes. Xi stressed that China will continue to prioritise relations with Pakistan in its neighbourhood diplomacy.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is currently on a four-day official visit to China, where discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, regional stability, and strategic partnership.
During his meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan had played a “sincere and constructive role” in efforts to mediate between the United States and Iran. He said diplomatic engagement by Pakistan and other regional players had helped reduce tensions.
The prime minister noted that Pakistan’s leadership, including senior military officials and the foreign ministry, remained actively engaged in ongoing regional diplomacy aimed at de-escalation in the Gulf.
He added that recent developments suggested progress toward stability, though the situation remained sensitive. He stressed that peace in the region was essential for global economic security, especially for energy-importing countries like Pakistan.
Shehbaz Sharif also thanked China for its continued support and hospitality, saying Pakistan deeply values the long-standing strategic partnership between the two countries.
Both sides reiterated their commitment to strengthening the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and promoting peace, development, and shared regional interests amid rising global tensions.
