Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized the use of a modern and automated tax management system to promote transparency and public confidence in the tax system and increase revenues.
He was chairing a meeting in Islamabad today to review ongoing reforms in the Federal Board of Revenue.
The Prime Minister said minimizing human intervention and discretionary powers in the tax collection system is the need of the hour.
He said an automated and modern tax management system will prove to be a milestone in the government’s reform agenda. He said the process of FBR reforms will continue to expand the tax net.
The Prime Minister appreciated the provincial governments for their effective action against illegal cigarettes.
He directed that the proposed pilot project for the automated collection of income tax be launched from federal capital, Islamabad. The meeting was briefed that the proposed new tax system has the ability to identify under-reported income and assets through data of properties, vehicles and banks.
A comprehensive plan to make inland revenue collections more effective and transparent was also presented in the meeting.
