The federal government wants to undo funding cuts for parliamentarians’ schemes, it was reported on Friday.
According to sources, the government plans to restore funds of Rs7 billion for Sustainable Development Goals Achievement Programme (SAP) (parliamentarian schemes) in the PSDP for the ongoing fiscal year via a technical supplementary grant, and with the Prime Minister of Pakistan’s nod, a summary will go to ECC for approval.
The government wants to restore funds for the parliamentarians’ schemes through a technical supplementary grant, and following the Prime Minister’s approval, it will move a summary to ECC for approval.
The federal government imposed 17% cut on most PSDP projects, but only 10% on SDGs (parliamentarian schemes), aiming to redirect funds for fuel subsidy.
However, the government now wants to reverse the 10 per cent cut on the parliamentarians’ schemes.
Interestingly, no one cares for cuts in key water, health, and education sectors projects, but the cut on parliamentarian schemes is of paramount importance and may likely be reversed, the source said. In the month of March, the government had imposed Rs 173 billion (17 per cent) cut on PSDP for the FY2025-26, slashing it to Rs 837 billion from Rs 1010 billion.
A cut of 10 percent or Rs7 billion was imposed on the parliamentarians schemes, and revised its allocations to Rs 63 billion from Rs 70 billion.
