GILGIT: Political activity has reached its peak across Gilgit-Baltistan as candidates and parties intensify their campaigns ahead of the regional elections scheduled for June 7.
From major towns to remote valleys, the region is witnessing a surge in rallies, corner meetings, and public gatherings as political groups make their final efforts to win voter support. Streets are decorated with party flags and campaign banners, while election slogans dominate public spaces, reflecting the growing excitement surrounding the upcoming vote.
With only days remaining before polling, candidates are focusing heavily on voter outreach and presenting their visions for the region’s future. Development projects, infrastructure improvements, and economic opportunities remain key themes in campaign messaging, although many residents appear increasingly cautious and are weighing promises carefully before casting their ballots.
Political observers describe the current stage of the campaign as the most crucial, with parties concentrating on voter engagement and narrative-building to secure an advantage in what is expected to be a closely watched election.
As campaigning intensifies, political negotiations are also underway behind the scenes. Senior leaders of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) held an important meeting in Gilgit to discuss the evolving political landscape and explore possibilities for future cooperation.
The discussions included former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, former federal minister Qamar Zaman Kaira, Federal Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain, and PML-Q Secretary General Tariq Hassan. Leaders from both parties reviewed the electoral situation, potential alliances, and possible post-election arrangements.
Participants agreed to maintain close coordination and continue consultations in the coming days. They expressed optimism about future collaboration, emphasizing the importance of political understanding and strategic cooperation in shaping Gilgit-Baltistan’s next government.
With election day fast approaching, attention is now firmly focused on June 7, when voters will decide the region’s political direction and determine which party emerges as the dominant force in Gilgit-Baltistan.
