Punjab plans unified revenue authority to streamline tax collection

The Punjab government has decided to modernize the provincial revenue system and is considering the establishment of a new institution on the lines of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to bring various tax departments under a unified framework.

The proposal was announced by Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman during a pre-budget roundtable conference.

According to the proposal, all tax and revenue-related departments of the province will be integrated into a centralised system aimed at improving efficiency and coordination.

The finance minister said the new institution could be established either as an authority or a board and would serve as a single platform for revenue administration across Punjab.

He said taxpayers would be able to address revenue and taxation-related issues under one roof, reducing administrative hurdles and improving service delivery.

The minister said the Punjab government was working to place the revenue systems of different departments on a single platform as part of broader reforms in the sector.

Officials believe the proposed changes will enhance transparency in tax collection, improve revenue management and strengthen the province’s overall fiscal framework.
