Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the purchase of wheat from the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO) in a move aimed at stabilizing wheat and flour prices across the province.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by the chief minister through video link in Lahore. The meeting reviewed the overall wheat supply situation and discussed measures to ensure price stability in the local market.
Officials briefed the chief minister on current wheat availability, flour production costs, and market fluctuations affecting prices. The session focused on preventing further price hikes and ensuring smooth supply of essential food commodities.
During the meeting, it was decided that wheat will be provided to flour mills at a fixed rate of Rs 3,300 per maund. The step is intended to support flour mills, control production costs, and ensure the availability of affordable flour and bread for the public.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized the need for timely and effective interventions to protect consumers from inflationary pressures. She directed authorities to ensure transparent distribution and strict monitoring of wheat supply.
She also instructed relevant departments to maintain coordination with PASSCO and flour mill associations to avoid any disruption in the supply chain.
Officials were further directed to monitor market prices closely and take immediate action against any artificial shortage or price manipulation.
The provincial government stated that the initiative is part of broader efforts to stabilize essential food prices and provide relief to citizens across Punjab.
