At least 10 tourists were killed and 13 injured after a vehicle caught fire and plunged into a roadside drain near the Express Khajut area of Murree on Wednesday.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, local residents rushed to the scene and helped rescue the injured passengers before transferring them to a PIMS hospital for medical treatment.
Officials said a fire vehicle from the Forest Department arrived at the site to assist in controlling the blaze.
However, reports indicated that Rescue 1122 teams did not reach the location immediately after the incident.
According to the DPO, the van lost control and crashed into a guardrail due to high speed.
Eyewitnesses stated that the vehicle, a Hiace van carrying tourists, caught fire while travelling through the area.
They said a fire broke out in the van’s engine, and the sliding door could not be opened.
Following the outbreak of the fire, the speedy vehicle veered off the road and fell into a drain alongside the route.
Hospital authorities confirmed that they had received four dead bodies and some injured tourists.
