Political rift: KP Assembly session deferred for third consecutive time

The scheduled session of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly has once again been postponed amid an ongoing deadlock between the provincial government and a group of disgruntled lawmakers.

The assembly session that was due to be held today (Monday, June 15) has now been rescheduled for 17 June.

A formal notification has been issued by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Secretariat, informing members and relevant officials of the revised date.

Sources said the repeated postponement of assembly proceedings has triggered speculation in political circles, as differences between KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and dissatisfied members of his party remain unresolved.

The continuing impasse has fuelled concerns about the government’s ability to move forward with legislative business, the sources said.

This is the latest in a series of delays affecting the provincial assembly. Earlier, the session originally scheduled for 1 June was postponed and moved to 8 June.

It was then deferred again to 15 June following a notification issued by the Assembly Secretariat.

At the time, no official reason was provided for the postponement. Members of the provincial assembly, assembly staff and relevant government officials were informed of the change and directed to prepare for the next sitting with all necessary documents and reports.

The repeated delays have drawn attention from political observers, who view the postponements as a reflection of the unresolved differences within the ruling ranks.
