Naqvi, JI leadership hold key talks in Lahore

LAHORE: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman at Mansoorah on Tuesday. Both leaders discussed political, economic, and security issues facing the country.

The meeting focused on the overall national situation. They also exchanged views on regional developments.

According to details, the Iran–US understanding was also discussed during the meeting. Both leaders called it a positive step for regional peace and stability.

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman appreciated Pakistan’s role in diplomatic efforts between Iran and the United States. He said Pakistan’s contribution to reducing regional tensions was significant.

Mohsin Naqvi briefed the JI chief on Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement regarding the Iran–US talks. He said Pakistan had played a constructive role in promoting peace in the region.

He added that the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir had helped in improving regional stability, according to the statement.

Both leaders also discussed economic challenges. They stressed the need for measures to provide relief to the public.

During the meeting, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman raised the issue of Pakistani nationals held by Somali pirates. He urged the government to use diplomatic channels to ensure their safe return.

He referred to the hijacking of the MT Honour 25. Eleven Pakistani crew members were taken hostage off the Somali coast in April.

The sailors have remained in captivity for more than 50 days. Negotiations are reportedly delayed due to communication gaps between the shipping company and intermediaries.

Officials said efforts are ongoing to resolve the matter and secure the release of the hostages.

Both sides reiterated the importance of continued engagement on national and international issues.
