The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) has constituted interview committees to assess candidates for appointment as judges of the country’s high courts, with the process expected to be completed by 4 July, it was reported on Thursday.
According to an official notification issued after approval by the Chief Justice of Pakistan, the committees have been established to conduct interviews of shortlisted candidates before recommendations for judicial appointments are finalised.
The notification states that Justice Aalia Neelum, as the senior-most chief justice among the high courts, will serve as a member of all interview committees.
For the Lahore High Court and the Islamabad High Court, Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi has been appointed chairman of the respective interview committees.
Meanwhile, Justice Aamir Farooq has been designated chairman of the interview committees responsible for candidates seeking appointment to the Sindh High Court and the Balochistan High Court.
The Judicial Commission has directed that all interviews be completed by 4 July, allowing the appointment process to move forward in accordance with established procedures.
The formation of the committees marks an important stage in the selection process for new high court judges, as the judiciary seeks to fill vacancies and strengthen the administration of justice across the country.
