ECP decides to activate its Legal Reforms Committee

Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to amend electoral laws and the Constitution ahead of the upcoming general elections and in this regard Election Commission has activated its Legal Reforms Committee.

Officials from all wings of the Election Commission, including senior leadership, participated in the Legal Reforms Committee. The committee will review existing electoral laws and constitutional provisions. According to sources, the committee will examine the legal and constitutional shortcomings that emerged during the 2024 general elections.

The committee will review constitutional and legal shortcomings and submit its recommendations. The Election Commission will review the legal framework to make electoral laws effective and modern. The Election Commission will prepare proposals for necessary amendments to the Constitution, the Election Act 2017, and the Election Rules 2017. The Election Commission will identify flaws in electoral laws and submit recommendations to the relevant forums. The review of the Election Act 2017 and Election Rules 2017 will be completed by December of this year. The ECP will provide its opinion on new legislation within three months.
