The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Friday unanimously passed amendments to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Members’ Privileges and Salaries Act, 2026, including the withdrawal of a provision allowing lawmakers to retain blue passports for life.
The assembly session, chaired by Deputy Speaker Suraya Bibi, approved the amended bill without opposition.
Under the revised law, official blue passports will now remain valid only for the duration of a member’s tenure in the provincial assembly, replacing the earlier provision that granted them for life.
Lawmakers also restored their entitlement to four free firearm licences, reversing an earlier reduction in the number of licences available to each member.
The amendments further reduced the fines and penalties applicable to journalists and introduced changes to several controversial provisions contained in the First Schedule of the Act.
Following the passage of the amendments and the resolution, the Deputy Speaker adjourned the assembly session until August 10.
