The salaries and benefits of Supreme Court (SC) judges have been significantly increased, bringing their pay and allowances in line with those of judges of the Federal Constitutional Court.
President Asif Ali Zardari approved the proposal on the recommendation of the federal government, it was reported on Thursday.
According to the TV channel report, the new salaries and allowances for Supreme Court judges will apply from the backdate of December 10, 2025.
The SC judges will also receive the financial benefit for the previous period, with arrears resulting from the increase to be paid to them.
Following the approval, the presidential order will be known as the Supreme Court Judges’ Salary Order 2026.
Under the approved changes, the Chief Justice of Pakistan will receive a monthly basic salary of Rs1.55 million, while the basic monthly salary of other Supreme Court judges will be Rs1.5 million.
The basic salary of Supreme Court judges has been increased from Rs1.1 million to Rs1.5 million, an increase of about Rs400,000 a month.
The judicial allowance has also been raised significantly. It has increased by about Rs339,000 a month, from Rs1.16 million to Rs1.5 million.
Important changes have also been made to the pension package for Supreme Court judges. Under the revised pension provisions, the age limit of 70 has been raised to 75, while the age limit of 85 has been increased to 90.
Supreme Court judges will also receive a monthly medical allowance of Rs150,000 under the new package.
