Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has said that those advocating the creation of new provinces should bring a resolution before the Sindh Assembly, which, he said, could once again pass a resolution opposing the move.
Speaking at the inauguration of new facilities at the Sindh Institute of Animal Health, Murad said the Sindh Assembly had already passed resolutions against the creation of new provinces six times.
He said the assembly could again adopt a resolution rejecting the proposal if such a demand was formally brought before it.
Commenting on the recent incident at PIMS Hospital, the chief minister described it as deeply tragic and stressed the need to further improve public institutions.
Murad said strengthening the local government system and building its capacity remained part of his government’s agenda. He also urged other provinces to strengthen their local government institutions to improve public service delivery.
Speaking about the Sindh Institute of Animal Health, the chief minister said the introduction of modern facilities was an important development that would improve animal healthcare, research and disease surveillance.
He said a modern pet hospital had been established at the institute, offering advanced facilities for treatment, surgery, intensive care and diagnostic services. The facility would provide veterinary care according to international standards.
Murad said a new diagnostic and research complex had also been established, featuring dairy, analytical and parasitology laboratories.
The modern laboratories would help detect and monitor animal diseases at an early stage and support efforts to prevent their spread. He added that an effective diagnostic system would also contribute to improving the quality of milk and meat and strengthening food safety.
The chief minister said developing a new generation of veterinary specialists and researchers was another key priority. He expressed his intention to transform the Sindh Institute of Animal Health into a centre for veterinary education, research and diagnostics.
He said diagnostic laboratories would be further upgraded and the institute’s capacity to produce vaccines would also be strengthened.
Murad added that modern and sustainable livestock practices suited to changing climatic conditions would be promoted to ensure the long-term development of the sector.
Talking to the media after the inauguration, the chief minister said the new building of the livestock institution had been opened as part of efforts being carried out in line with the vision of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
He recalled that the land had originally been allocated for establishing the institution in 1970, but several people had occupied parts of the premises in previous years.
Murad praised the efforts of the livestock department and said motorcycles had been provided to staff working at the animal hospital to improve their mobility and field services.
