PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has said he will not change his position despite threats of imposing governor’s rule in the province, stressing that no decision against the public mandate of the people of KP will be acceptable.
Addressing a meeting on maintaining peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Afridi said the people, police and security forces of the province had made enormous sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and for restoring stability.
The chief minister said the government could significantly improve the security situation within 100 days if all stakeholders agreed on a clear and consistent policy and implemented it effectively.
He called for bringing all relevant stakeholders together to formulate a comprehensive strategy for peace in the province. He said political differences should not be allowed to undermine efforts aimed at protecting the lives and livelihoods of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Afridi stressed that the province needed a change in policy to address its security challenges and achieve lasting peace. He urged authorities and stakeholders to focus on practical measures rather than allowing political disputes to interfere with the province’s security and governance.
The chief minister also made it clear that threats of governor’s rule would not force him to abandon his stance. He said the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had given their mandate and any move taken against their will would not be acceptable.
Afridi maintained that the provincial government would continue to pursue its position on peace and security while seeking cooperation from all stakeholders to address the challenges facing the province.
