Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said Pakistan forcefully presented its positions on Palestine, Kashmir, the 2025 Pakistan-India conflict and the Indus Waters Treaty during the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session, it was reported on Friday.
Addressing a press conference at the Foreign Office, Ishaq Dar said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif represented Pakistan at the UNGA from September 21 to 26 and held extensive meetings with world leaders and senior international officials.
Ishaq Dar said the prime minister also addressed the issue of UN reforms and Pakistan’s position on global challenges, while his address on China’s Global Development Initiative was appreciated by participants.
He said the prime minister held meetings with the leaders of Kuwait, Bosnia, Kenya, Iran and other countries, while Pakistan also played a role in efforts to extend the scope of a ceasefire involving the US-Iran conflict to Lebanon.
Ishaq Dar said he participated in several Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and international meetings on Palestine, Kashmir, and Afghanistan, as well as discussions on global pandemics and the Makkah Defense Agreement.
He added that he chaired the 27th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) meeting and participated in a meeting on Palestine hosted at the invitation of the French president, along with representatives from Canada, Saudi Arabia, and the United Nations.
According to Ishaq Dar, he held meetings with leaders and senior officials from Iran, Bahrain, Algeria, Libya, Jordan, Austria, Greece, Hungary, Bulgaria and Mali, as well as the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) secretary-general and the Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine.
In addition, he held 28 bilateral meetings during the UNGA visit and three agreements were signed.
He said Pakistan concluded agreements on bilateral relations with Guatemala and with Benin, while a significant agreement on diplomatic and official “Blue” passports was signed with Saudi Arabia. He added that a similar agreement with Algeria is expected soon.
