ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal has said global conflicts and economic changes are affecting food, energy, trade and investment in Pakistan, it was reported on Monday
Addressing the 29th Sustainable Development Conference organised by Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), he said, it is necessary for countries to reassess their development priorities as international conflicts could directly increase food and fertiliser prices in Pakistan, adding that the country must maintain economic independence while strengthening global partnerships.
Federal Minister Dr Musadik Malik said that development projects must account for climate change and flood risks, warning that poor communities bear the greatest burden of natural disasters.
He said sustainable development should protect vulnerable communities and deliver direct benefits to local populations.
Meanwhile, SDPI Executive Director Dr Abid Suleri called for greater private-sector participation in sustainable development and urged industries to adopt green energy and international environmental standards.
He also called for a reassessment of development planning and implementation strategies to address these emerging challenges.
