Punjab continues to face rivers’ wrath as India’s fresh Sutlej release submerges villages

LAHORE: Punjab continued to reel from deluges as its rivers are posing threat with a surge of water.

High level flood situation continued in Chenab, Sutlej and Ravi. After wreaking havoc in Punjab, the floodwater is heading towards Sindh.

The water flow at Guddu Barrage has started increasing continuously. A moderate flood has occurred, the water flow has been recorded at 416,000 cusecs and a flood of 800,000 cusecs is likely to pass through Guddu Barrage.

There is a fear of a large area of Kachha being submerged, the administration has issued a high alert.

A flood of 782,000 cusecs has started flowing from Chachran in the Indus River in Khanpur. A flood of 9 to 1 million cusecs is likely to flow in the next 24 hours. There is low-level flooding in the Indus River at Sukkur.

    Flood victims to get relief in electricity bills

    The federal government has announced to provide relief to the flood victims in electricity bills.

    The government, as per the sources, is considering abolishing the GST, FC surcharge and fixed charges as well as fuel price adjustment, excise duty and other taxes on bills.

    Speaking to Geo News, Federal Minister for Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain said that taxes will be waived on electricity bills of the flood victims.

    Assuring that the government will take notice of exorbitant electricity bills, the minister said that a farmer package will also be announced as soon as the survey of flood-affected areas is completed.

    India warns Pakistan of flood

    The Indian High Commission has warned Pakistan about the flood situation by communicating information, the Punjab PDMA said.

    The authority further added that there is a high-level flood at Harike and Ferozepur downs streams in the Sutlej River.

    Also, the neighbouring country has discharged water in the Sutlej River once again and has communicated the matter to Pakistan’s Ministry of Water Resources via its High Commission.

    Ongoing rains spell to be this monsoon’s last: NDMA

    The NDMA has said that the ongoing rain spell will be the current monsoon season’s last intense showers.

    The authority further said that post-monsoon systems are expected after the recent monsoon spell culminates and it will be of low to medium intensity.

    High flood levels persist in Sutlej

    Bahawalpur continues to face a high flood situation as the Sutlej River maintains elevated water levels.

    Floodwaters are wreaking havoc in the river belt areas of Tehsil Ahmadpur Sharqia, causing extensive damage to property and farmland.

    In Chak Kehil, floodwater from a torrent entered residential areas, posing a serious threat to residents.

    Several families from Chak Kehil and surrounding localities have been moved to safer locations by rescue teams.

    Intermittent rain causes waterlogging, power outages in Hyderabad

    Hyderabad has been receiving intermittent rain since last night, disrupting routine life in several parts of the city. Water has accumulated in Panjra Pol, Cloth Market, Phuleli, Preetabad, Goru Ground, and Station Road, making commuting difficult for residents.

    Low-lying areas including Faqeer Ka Par, Nishat Market, Latifabad, and Qasimabad have also been inundated.

    Power supply has been suspended in many areas of the city, adding to the residents’ difficulties.
