KP introduces new rules for govt servants marrying foreigners

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has issued new regulations requiring civil servants to obtain prior approval before marrying foreign nationals, in a move aimed at tightening administrative oversight and security compliance, it was reported on Wednesday.

According to the new rules, civil servants who are already married to foreign citizens without official permission will have their cases reviewed and submitted afresh before the government for consideration.

Under the revised framework, no government employee will be allowed to marry a foreign national without prior approval from the competent authority.

Any violation of the rules will be treated as misconduct and may result in disciplinary action against the concerned official.

The new policy, introduced under the KP Civil Servants Rules 2026, requires employees to submit a formal application along with supporting documents, including a character clearance certificate and an affidavit confirming that the foreign spouse is not involved in any illegal or anti-state activities.

Authorities will evaluate multiple factors before granting permission, including the nationality of the foreign partner and diplomatic relations between Pakistan and the respective country, as well as security and intelligence assessments and clearance from relevant institutions.

Officials stated that the aim of the policy is to ensure transparency and safeguard administrative and security interests while regulating personal matters involving government employees.
