The government has approved a comprehensive strategy to upgrade airport security and improve passenger convenience through closer coordination between civil and defence institutions.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, where officials reviewed existing challenges and proposed reforms aimed at streamlining airport operations across the country.
Under the new plan, authorities will introduce a unified screening system, allowing multiple agencies to operate through a single checkpoint. This move is expected to reduce duplication, cut waiting times, and ensure smoother passenger flow.
Officials also agreed to install advanced screening equipment to enhance security standards in line with international practices. Joint counters will be set up to simplify procedures, making the travel experience quicker and more efficient.
The meeting also reviewed progress on the installation of electronic gates (e-gates), which will automate parts of the immigration process and significantly speed up passenger clearance.
Naqvi emphasized that better coordination among departments is key to eliminating delays and long queues at airports. He said the government is focused on providing modern, fast, and hassle-free travel facilities to the public.
In addition to passenger facilitation, safety measures are also being strengthened. Authorities are importing modern technology to prevent bird strikes, a major risk factor in aviation, to ensure safer flight operations.
Earlier, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held a key meeting with acting US Ambassador Natalie Baker to review security arrangements for the expected second round of high-level talks between the United States and Iran.
The meeting took place at the US Embassy in Islamabad, where both sides discussed the overall security framework as well as the evolving regional situation. Officials said special measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of foreign delegations expected to arrive in the capital.
Naqvi briefed the US envoy on comprehensive preparations, including enhanced protection for visiting dignitaries and strict security protocols across sensitive areas. He also expressed hope that the upcoming round of dialogue would yield positive outcomes.
