An accountability court (AC) in Lahore on Wednesday suspended the perpetual, red warrants issued for the daughter and son-in-law of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the Saaf Pani corruption case.
Accepting the assurance given by Rabia Imran and Imran Ali Yousaf that they would surrender before the court, Judge Rana Muhammad Arif ordered Rabia Imran and Imran Ali Yousaf to appear on May 5.
In its written order, the AC said that the court had issued perpetual arrest warrants for both husband and wife in March 2021.
And at the NAB’s request, the Interpol had issued their red warrants, the AC added.
It was further stated that as per the applicants, warrants could not be executed since they were out of country, and that now they wanted to surrender before the court and face the trial.
The applicants said they were afraid they might be arrested on arrival at an airport since their red warrants had been issued.
The order read that the NAB did not object to the suspension of red warrants. “Every Pakistani has been guaranteed the right to fair trial under the constitution,” the court said, adding that the counsel for the applicants had informed that PM Shehbaz and others had already been acquitted in the case.
The NAB had filed a Saaf Pani reference against the prime minister and 19 others.
