K-Electric has announced a special relief measure for Karachi residents amid an ongoing heatwave, stating that no load shedding will be carried out in any area where the “feels-like” temperature reaches 45 degrees Celsius.
According to K-Electric Head of Distribution Operations Khurram Abdullah, the power utility has also suspended all scheduled maintenance shutdowns in view of the severe weather conditions. He said the decision was taken to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during peak heat, when demand for cooling increases significantly.
He further explained that if the perceived temperature in any locality rises to 45°C or above, that area will be exempted from planned load shedding to help residents cope with the extreme weather conditions.
Meanwhile, the heatwave continues to grip large parts of the country. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast that Karachi’s weather will remain hot and dry over the next 24 hours, with no immediate relief expected.
On Monday, several cities across Pakistan recorded extremely high temperatures. The highest reading of 45°C was reported in Turbat and Mithi. Karachi, Sukkur, Sibi, Lasbela, and Thatta experienced temperatures around 44°C. In other regions, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, and Bahawalpur recorded 40°C, while Lahore reached 37°C. Islamabad, Quetta, and Peshawar recorded comparatively lower temperatures of 34°C and 33°C respectively.
