Sharif brothers review rising fuel prices, public relief?

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met PML-N President Nawaz Sharif at Jati Umra in Lahore. The meeting focused on the country’s political situation and ongoing economic challenges.

Senior party leaders were also present. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz attended the discussion. The leadership reviewed key government matters in detail.

The meeting discussed rising inflation and fuel price increases. Ishaq Dar briefed Nawaz Sharif on the reasons behind the recent hike in petroleum prices. Economic pressures and international market conditions were explained during the session.

Nawaz Sharif expressed concern over public hardship. He stressed that relief for citizens must remain a top priority. He directed party leaders to take steps to reduce the burden on low-income groups.

Political matters were also reviewed. The leadership discussed the overall stability of the government. Internal coordination and future strategy were part of the talks.

Upcoming elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan were also discussed. Party preparations and electoral strategy were reviewed in detail.

Regional diplomatic developments came under discussion as well. The meeting included a briefing on behind-the-scenes diplomatic efforts related to Iran-US talks. The leadership was informed about evolving regional tensions and international engagement.

Earlier, Pakistan has announced another sharp increase in petroleum prices, pushing both petrol and high-speed diesel above the Rs400-per-litre mark for the first time.

The revised rates came into effect from midnight, triggering concerns over rising transport costs and inflationary pressure across the country.

According to the latest notification, the federal government increased the price of petrol by Rs14.92 per litre, while diesel saw an increase of Rs15 per litre. Following the hike, petrol is now priced at 414.58 per litre while diesel at Rs414.78 per litre.
