Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have killed two suspected militants in an intelligence-based operation in Bannu, officials said on Saturday.
According to the Regional Police Officer, the operation was conducted near Khojari in the Circular Road area. Police engaged militants in an exchange of fire during the raid.
Two suspects were killed on the spot. However, some of their accomplices managed to escape under cover of fire. A search operation has been launched to track them down.
Police said the militants were involved in several serious crimes. They were also wanted in the recent killing of a Rescue 1122 driver in Bannu.
The victim, Usman Khan, was shot dead earlier in what authorities described as a targeted attack. His killing had sparked strong condemnation from emergency services and law enforcement agencies.
Officials confirmed that Usman Khan was the brother of a serving police constable. His body was shifted to the district headquarters hospital for post-mortem examination.
In a separate operation in the Sardi Khel area of Jani Khel, security forces also killed another suspected militant. Officials said the individual was involved in anti-state activities.
Police leadership has vowed to continue targeted operations in the region. Authorities said operations against militant networks will continue without interruption until lasting peace is restored.
Bannu has witnessed a series of militant attacks in recent weeks. Earlier incidents include an attack on a police checkpoint that caused multiple casualties among security personnel.
Security forces have intensified intelligence-based operations in response to the rising violence. Officials say efforts are ongoing to dismantle militant networks operating in the region.
