KP CM alleges blocked visit to Imran Khan, raises health concerns

PESHAWAR: Sohail Afridi on Tuesday claimed that the federal government blocked his visit to former prime minister Imran Khan at Adiala Jail, terming the move an “insult” to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In a statement shared on social media, the chief minister said that he, along with members of his cabinet and provincial parliamentarians, was travelling to Adiala Jail in Punjab to express solidarity with the incarcerated PTI founder when they were stopped at Islamabad’s 26 Number Chowk.

Afridi alleged that preventing the province’s chief executive from meeting the former premier was not only disrespectful to him but also to the 46 million people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He further accused the federal government of halting gas supply to KP and claimed that the Punjab government had stopped the movement of wheat to the province, calling these actions contrary to the spirit of federation and the Constitution.

The KP chief minister also raised concerns over Imran Khan’s health, alleging that the former prime minister had lost 85 per cent of his eyesight due to what he described as negligence by the jail administration. He claimed that Khan was not being allowed to meet his legal counsel, family members, or personal physician, and accused the authorities of failing to comply with court orders.

According to Afridi, Imran Khan has been kept in solitary confinement since November 2025 and is being subjected to inhumane treatment. He demanded immediate access for the PTI leader’s family and personal doctor, warning that any harm caused due to alleged denial of medical care would be the responsibility of the federal government, Punjab police and jail authorities.

There was no immediate response from the federal or Punjab governments regarding the allegations.

This report is based on the statement issued by the KP chief minister. The claims have not been independently verified.
