Pakistan and Rwanda have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in nuclear safety and radiation protection. The agreement was signed between the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA) and Rwanda’s regulatory body RURA.
The signing ceremony was held at the PNRA headquarters in Islamabad. Senior officials from both countries attended the event.
The MoU was signed by PNRA Chairman Zia Hussain Shah and RURA Deputy Director General Claude Nikuze. The agreement marks a step forward in regulatory cooperation between the two sides.
According to officials, the agreement focuses on cooperation in nuclear safety standards and radiation protection measures. It also aims to enhance technical collaboration between the regulatory institutions.
The Rwandan delegation also visited key facilities during their stay in Pakistan. They toured laboratories and technical centres of PNRA and the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC).
Officials said the visit helped both sides exchange views on regulatory practices and safety systems. It also provided an opportunity to understand each other’s technical frameworks.
The agreement will promote the exchange of information and expertise. It will also encourage the sharing of international best practices in nuclear regulation.
Authorities said the collaboration is expected to strengthen institutional capacity in both countries. It will also support efforts to ensure safe use of nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
PNRA officials reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining high standards of nuclear safety and radiation protection. They said Pakistan continues to align its practices with global regulatory requirements.
The MoU is seen as an important development in expanding bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Rwanda in the field of nuclear regulation.
