No seat adjustment deal between PTI, PKMAP, MWM

Political differences have emerged between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP), and Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) over electoral alliances and seat adjustments in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Sources said initial efforts were made to form a broader opposition alliance. PTI leadership reportedly contacted Mahmood Khan Achakzai to explore contesting under PKMAP’s electoral symbol. However, no agreement was reached after internal consultations.

According to sources, PKMAP representatives also held discussions with PTI leaders in Peshawar. PTI’s leadership, including Khalid Khurshid, reportedly did not agree to contest elections on PKMAP’s ticket.

MWM also extended an offer to PTI for an electoral alliance. Opposition leader Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas proposed a seat adjustment formula for 16 constituencies.

However, PTI’s central leadership rejected the proposal to contest under MWM’s platform. Sources said the party preferred to maintain its own electoral identity.

Further reports suggest that discussions were also held with two other political parties. But no final agreement or seat-sharing formula could be developed.

Sources added that Raja Nasir Abbas had proposed joint election campaigns and rallies with PTI leadership. However, PTI reportedly responded that it lacked sufficient financial resources for large-scale campaign activities.

It is also reported that PTI leadership cited differences over voting patterns and religious considerations as one of the reasons for not aligning with MWM.

Despite multiple rounds of contacts and negotiations, all efforts to form a united opposition alliance in Gilgit-Baltistan have so far failed.

Political observers say the lack of consensus may impact opposition strength in the upcoming elections, as parties continue to contest separately.
