Pakistan has rejected recent statements made by India regarding the upcoming elections in Gilgit-Baltistan. The Foreign Office called the remarks baseless and misleading.
Officials said India’s comments were an attempt to distort facts about the region. They said such claims are part of a repeated pattern of propaganda.
The Foreign Office stated that Gilgit-Baltistan elections are an internal matter of Pakistan. It added that no external statement can change the constitutional and administrative process of the region.
Pakistan said India’s allegations are unfounded. It described them as an effort to divert attention from other regional issues.
The Foreign Office also reiterated Pakistan’s position on Jammu and Kashmir. It said the territory remains an internationally recognised disputed area.
Officials said the Kashmir issue is still pending resolution under relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. They said the final settlement must reflect the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
Pakistan further said India’s actions in the region since August 2019 are unilateral. It called for reversal of those steps and restoration of normal conditions.
The statement also urged India to allow access to international observers and human rights organisations. It said transparency is necessary to understand the situation on the ground.
Officials said the people of Kashmir must be given the right to decide their future through a fair and impartial process.
Pakistan stressed that long-term peace in the region depends on resolving the Kashmir dispute. It said political statements cannot change established realities.
Preparations for the Gilgit-Baltistan elections are continuing. Voting is scheduled to take place on June 7 across the region.
