After the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) emerged as the largest party in the Gilgit-Baltistan elections, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari declared that his party would attempt to form a government in the region.
In a post uploaded on the X platform in the wee hours of Monday, Bilawal Bhutto said, “The Pakistan Peoples Party is emerging as the single largest party, and we will be attempting to form a government. I am grateful to the people for their trust and congratulations to Jiyalas on their victory.”
The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has emerged as the single largest party in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly general elections 2026, according to unofficial and unverified results.
However, with no single party securing a clear majority, the role of independent candidates has become crucial for government formation in the region.
According to the preliminary data, the PPP managed to secure 10 seats, followed by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) with six seats. Candidates backed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) won two seats, while the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) bagged one seat.
Crucially, five seats were won by independent candidates, who are now expected to play a decisive role in the making of the next government. Political analysts, top-ranking in the region, suggest that intense horse-trading and political manoeuvring will begin as mainstream parties scramble to woo the independent winners.
The final picture regarding the party positions and the future setup will emerge only after the official announcement of results by the Election Commission.
Meanwhile, the district of Gilgit witnessed major upsets where heavyweights from both sides clinched victories in their respective constituencies.
In Gilgit-1, former GB chief minister and PML-N candidate Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman secured a comfortable victory with a heavy majority. Concurrently, in Gilgit-2, PPP Gilgit-Baltistan President Amjad Hussain Advocate defeated his rivals to claim the seat, cementing his party’s stronghold in the district.

GBLA-1 Gilgit I
In constituency GB-1 Gilgit-I, PPP candidate Amjad Hussain Advocate was declared successful after securing 10,594 votes. PML-N candidate Shafiq-ud-Din finished second with 6,316 votes.
GBLA-2 Gilgit II
The result for GB-2 Gilgit-II showed a PML-N candidate victory, with Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman securing 11,203 votes. PPP candidate Aftab Haider came second with 7,394 votes.
GBLA-3 Gilgit III
Independent candidate Syed Sohail Abbas won GBA-3 Gilgit-III with 7,853 votes.
GBLA-4 Nagar I
In GB-4 Nagar-I, PPP candidate Muhammad Ali Akhtar won the seat with 7,654 votes, defeating Islamic Tehreek candidate Muhammad Ayub, who received 6,597 votes.
GBLA-5 Nagar II
PPP candidate Zulfiqar Ali Murad secured GBA-5 Nagar-II with 2,628 votes.
GBLA-6 Hunza I
Independent candidate Neknam Karim won the GB-6 Hunza constituency with 6,390 votes. PPP candidate Imtiaz-ul-Haq finished runner-up with 5,417 votes.
GBLA-7 Skardu I
PPP returned to the winners’ list in Skardu, where Syed Taqeer Mehdi Shah won GBA-7 Skardu-I with 4,337 votes.
GBLA-8 Skardu II
The lone victory for Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen came in GB-8 Skardu-II, where Muhammad Kazim secured 10,658 votes. PPP candidate Syed Muhammad Ali Shah was second with 10,065 votes.
GBLA-9 Skardu III
PPP candidate Fida Muhammad Nashad won GBA-9 Skardu-III with 6,314 votes.
GBLA-10 Skardu IV
PPP candidate Nasir Ali won GBA-10 Skardu-IV with 6,639 votes.
GBLA-11 Kharmang
In GB-11 Kharmang, PPP candidate Iqbal Hassan was declared successful after obtaining 5,944 votes, while PML-N candidate Syed Mohsin Rizvi received 4,589 votes.
GBLA-12 Shigar
PPP also claimed victory in GB-12 Shigar, where Imran Nadeem secured 12,944 votes. ITP candidate Raja Muhammad Azam Khan finished second with 8,682 votes.
GBLA-13 Astore I
PML-N candidate Rana Farman Ali secured GBA-13 Astore-I with 7,200 votes.
GBLA-14 Astore II
PML-N’s Rana Muhammad Farooq won GBA-14 Astore-II after polling 6,850 votes.

In GBA-16 Diamer-II, independent candidate Syed Imam Malik won with 6,664 votes.

PML-N’s Abdul Jahan claimed victory in GBA-20 Ghizer-II after receiving 6,917 votes.

Independent candidate Aman Ali Amir won GBA-21 Ghizer-III with more than 7,000 votes.
