National Assembly (NA) Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has said that Pakistan’s leadership deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for its role in facilitating the recently announced peace agreement between the United States and Iran.
It was reported on Monday that Ayaz Sadiq paid tribute to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for his leadership in advancing diplomatic efforts that culminated in the agreement.
Ayaz Sadiq also praised Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar for their contributions to the peace process.
The Speaker further extended congratulations to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and commended the collective efforts of the country’s leadership.
He said the role played by Pakistani officials in promoting dialogue and supporting regional stability merited international appreciation.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that a peace agreement had been reached between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran following intensive negotiations.
According to the Prime Minister, both sides had agreed to the immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon.
PM Shehbaz also stated that the formal signing ceremony of the agreement is scheduled to take place in Switzerland on 19 June.
The Prime Minister thanked both countries for their commitment to resolving differences through diplomacy and acknowledged the mediation efforts and leadership of the State of Qatar in helping facilitate the agreement.
Ayaz Sadiq’s remarks came as political leaders continued to welcome the breakthrough as a significant development for regional peace and stability.
He said the agreement demonstrated the value of dialogue, diplomacy and constructive engagement in resolving international disputes.
While praising the leadership’s role, the Speaker remarked that their efforts were worthy of consideration for the Nobel Peace Prize.
However, the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded through an independent nomination and selection process overseen by the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which evaluates candidates nominated by eligible individuals and institutions before making its final decision.
