US resumes Karachi, Lahore consular services from July 20

The United States Embassy has announced that regular consular services at its missions in Karachi and Lahore will resume from July 20 after a temporary suspension due to security concerns.

The services will include assistance for US citizens and the processing of non-immigrant visa applications, according to the embassy.

The suspension was announced earlier this year after security concerns increased following anti-US protests linked to the US and Israeli strikes on Iran. The situation led to the temporary closure of routine consular operations at both locations.

In a statement shared on social media, the US Embassy in Islamabad confirmed that the Karachi and Lahore consulates would restart normal operations from July 20.

An embassy official, in a video message, advised applicants to use official channels for visa appointments and warned people against paying third parties who claim to arrange interviews or visa processing.

The embassy urged applicants to rely only on official embassy platforms for accurate information and services.

Earlier, the US Mission had reduced staff at some diplomatic facilities and advised non-essential personnel to leave due to security risks. The measures were taken as tensions increased following regional developments and retaliatory actions involving Iran.

The US State Department had also adjusted operations at its facilities in Pakistan, including changes to services provided through the US Embassy in Islamabad.

The resumption of regular consular services is expected to facilitate visa applicants and US citizens requiring assistance in Pakistan.
