Lahore: The conference, held with the collaborative support of KNH, Pak Mission Society, Sakillstan, BMZ, Humedica International and Superior University, welcomed around 500 participants, including members from government and non-government organizations, and youth from educational institutions across Punjab.
The conference focused on critical discussions surrounding the escalating climate change crisis and the exploration of viable solutions through environmental social justice and the principles of a circular economy. Key topics included sustainability, practical projects from provincial government institutions, and strategic planning to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
A notable highlight was the Green Club, an initiative by the Pakistan Mission Society, where school children presented speeches and sketches to raise awareness among their peers. Their compelling presentations and suggestions underscored the urgency of environmental stewardship and showcased innovative ideas for enhancing ecological well-being.
Distinguished guests included Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, Secretary Punjab Mr. Jahanghar Anwar (Environmental Protection and Climate Change), Additional Director PHA Mr. Sufiullah Gondal, CEO Mr. Babar Saab Deen of the Lahore Waste Management Company, Mr. Sajid Quddus Awan of Forest, Wildlife & Fishers Punjab, and various other esteemed figures. The conference also featured contributions from climate activists, eco-friendly entrepreneurs, meteorologists, conservationists, and educators.
Keynote speakers and panelists such as Dure Shawar, Mr. Shah Nawaz Khan, Hasan Bin Saadat, and Adeel Rahmat (CEO of Pak Mission Society) shared their insights and expertise on climate action and sustainability. Kiran Shahzadi, Country Director of KNH, and Chaudhry Abd-ur-Rehman, Chairman of Superior University, also played pivotal roles in guiding the conference’s agenda.
The event catalyzed inspiring proactive engagement among the youth, emphasizing the critical role they play in combating climate change and fostering sustainable development. Through a series of interactive sessions and collaborative discussions, participants were equipped with the knowledge and motivation needed to drive impactful environmental initiatives.
The Provincial Local Conference for Youth 2024 reaffirms the commitment of all stakeholders to a sustainable future and reinforces the importance of collective action in addressing the challenges posed by climate change.
