Four people lost their lives when an armed clash broke out between two rival groups over a dispute regarding illegal gold mining in Nowshera, it was reported on Monday.
The incident took place in Nizampur area of Nowshera.
According to police, four people, including a passerby, were killed in the incident, while three others were seriously injured.
The dead persons include Mehran, a 17-year-old youngster who belonged to the Ataullah Group and three other people who belonged to the Saddam group.
The DSP Akora Khattak Circle said the clash began yesterday when one group allegedly took control of a valuable plot along the Indus River.
Fear and harassment gripped the area as announcements were made through loudspeakers advising people to remain in their houses while children were still hiding in their school.
Upon receiving information, a heavy police contingent reached the site and cordoned off the area.
According to Rescue 1122, the bodies of the deceased and the injured have been shifted to Qazi Medical Complex Hospital.
