The Lahore High Court has taken up a petition seeking the release of Rs7 crore deposited as surety in a corruption reference.
The petition has been filed by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
The court has officially fixed the matter for hearing on May 11. A three-member bench will hear the case.
The bench will be headed by Chief Justice Aalia Neelum.
According to court records, the amount of Rs7 crore was deposited in the Lahore High Court as a security or guarantee in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills reference.
The petition states that this amount was submitted during earlier legal proceedings linked to the case.
The applicant has now requested the court to order the return of the deposited funds.
It has been argued in the petition that the relevant case has already been concluded.
The petition further states that the National Accountability Bureau has closed the Chaudhry Sugar Mills reference.
On this basis, the petitioner maintains that the surety amount is no longer required to be retained by the court.
The plea requests the court to issue directions for the immediate release and return of the Rs7 crore deposited amount.
The Lahore High Court has also sought a formal written reply or statement from NAB before the next hearing.
Officials are expected to clarify the status of the case and the legal basis for retaining or releasing the deposited amount.
The case will now be heard on May 11, where the bench will decide whether the surety money should be returned or kept under court custody.
