K-P petrol relief scheme under fire after Rs100 payments instead of Rs2,200

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s petrol relief programme for motorcycle users has come under growing scrutiny after beneficiaries reported receiving far lower amounts than officially promised, raising serious questions about its implementation.

Under the “Ehsaas Motorcycle Relief” initiative, the provincial government had pledged financial assistance to help ease rising fuel costs for around 1.6 million motorcycle owners. A total allocation of Rs3 billion was announced for the programme.

However, official figures suggest a major gap between the announced targets and actual execution. So far, only 17,658 individuals have registered for the scheme, while 8,515 applications have been approved for financial support.

Despite approvals, disbursement has remained limited, with more than 5,000 beneficiaries reportedly receiving payments to date. The controversy deepened after at least one recipient claimed to have received just Rs100 instead of the expected Rs2,200, triggering further internal checks.

Government officials have acknowledged the discrepancy and said the matter is under investigation. Authorities are particularly examining the reported irregular payment, while concerns continue to mount over delays, low registration, and the overall effectiveness of the programme’s rollout.
