Pakistan, China reaffirm support for regional peace efforts

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar met Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zedong on Monday and discussed regional peace efforts, implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and cooperation between the two countries, the Foreign Office said.

According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, Dar briefed the Chinese envoy on progress made during the high-level talks held in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, on the implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

The deputy prime minister also shared details of discussions at the R-4 Regional Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Cairo and of ongoing efforts toward the peaceful resolution of regional issues through negotiations and diplomacy.

Dar appreciated China’s consistent support for Pakistan’s peace initiatives and acknowledged Beijing’s role in the peace process. He also praised Chinese President Xi Jinping’s four-point peace proposal and the China-Pakistan five-point initiative.

The Chinese ambassador commended Pakistan’s role in helping to reduce regional tensions and reiterated Beijing’s strong support for Islamabad’s mediation efforts to promote lasting peace and stability.

Both sides agreed to continue working together to help resolve outstanding issues and stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in addressing regional challenges.

Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining close consultation and cooperation with China to advance the shared objectives of peace, stability and common development.

He also expressed Pakistan’s determination to further strengthen the Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership, the spokesperson said.
