A captured militant leader, Aamir Sohail alias Maulvi Haider, has reportedly confessed to receiving training and support from militant networks operating in Afghanistan, according to his statement shared by authorities.
In his statement, he said he joined the group after being influenced by anti-Pakistan propaganda and later received training at a facility in Paktika, Afghanistan. He claimed that several Afghan nationals were also part of his group, which was involved in attacks on security forces in areas including Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and Mianwali.
He further alleged that militant hubs in Afghanistan had links with other extremist organizations, including ISIS and Al-Qaeda, and said that different external elements provided financial support to such groups.
The detained suspect also stated that he was arrested by security forces while traveling to Peshawar for medical treatment. He added that the group he belonged to had no religious justification for its actions and was instead driven by financial gain.
Authorities say his confession highlights ongoing concerns about cross-border militant activity and the use of Afghan territory by extremist networks targeting Pakistan.
